Series: Blessed Be
Psalm 23:1-2 ESV
There are times in life when being accepted is a great gift.
Today I spoke with someone about an issue and I immediately realized we were in complete agreement.
God gave both of us a moment when we realized we agreed and accepted each other.
While I really liked that person the first time we met, today I realized God sent them in my life to be a blessing.
In return, I could tell they also realized they were accepted.
We became friends.
I walked away from the conversation thanking God for my new friend.
Psalm 23:1-2 tells us, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.”
I am constantly amazed that our God Is a God who not only created the universes, God created all the planets, God created all the ecosystems, all the plants, and all the creatures.
For example (even though some might think it sounds trivial) I believe God created by dog (my buddy) as a gift just for me.
My dog is a miniature Schnoodle.
He is not a registered dog and he doesn’t have “bloodlines”.
What my dog has is a heart full of love. While some might think I’m making that up I know that when I am feeling down my dog comes to sit beside me. He is a great friend and comforter.
He is not a young pup anymore.
We have been a “team” for more than a decade.
Not only is he a great sympathizer, he is a great playmate. People who know me have noticed that we are great friends.
I think that’s because we’ve been together through good times and bad and he’s always been mindful of our surroundings. He keeps a watchful eye out for danger.
The point is that I think God knew exactly what I needed any years ago when I saw an advertisement for a schnoodle. I instantly knew we would be a good match. I grew up with a miniature poodle who had a razor sharp mind. He was sixteen years old when his old body gave up.
As an adult, I had a miniature schnauzer. He was determined, energetic, and eager to please. He was always ready to run and play!
God knew this schnoodle would give me exactly what I needed.
The Lord is my shepherd every day in every way even in the small details.
The Lord helps me to relax. My trusty canine friend sits with me, snuggles, and gently nudges me when I haven’t acknowledged him for a while. He reminds me he is nearby. I know he is my friend.
The Lord helps me to rest, even in knowing my dog will hear and smell danger when something changes. That may sound like a silly thing to some but it means a lot to me that when I close my eyes at night my dog is near by. He hears and smells everything.
My example may seem trivial to some, but God knows it’s not trivial to me.
God knows I am grateful for the gift.
I think that’s because God knew exactly what I would need many years ago when I saw the advertisement for a tiny schnoodle pup.
God knew what it would mean to me.
The Lord IS my SHEPHERD!
Spiritual Practice: You
What does God know about you? What does God provide that helps you every day?
