Secret Weapon
Psalm 27:1 AMP
Colossians 1:16 ESV
In the still of the night when silence reigns we can hear the whisper of the Spirit of God.
When my children were young the silence of God was a most cherished event. We lived in a church parsonage that had a small back porch. When the stars were lit up I would go sit and for a period of time. I would just breathe. Slow steady breathe allowed me to take the universe in and with every breath I could feel the peace of God. We weren’t sure forty years ago what was beyond earth, but the first Space Shuttle was launched. As we looked at the stars we believed there was much more to come.
On earth forty years ago as we sat with the stars even though we knew we were one small part of something greater than what we could see. I loved Star Trek and Star Wars and they fueled my imagination.
We are part of something greater that God created.
What amazes me about the Psalm that King David wrote is that even then he realized we do not stand alone…no man is an island.
David wrote in Psalm 27:1, “The LORD is my light and my salvation— Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the refuge and fortress of my life— Whom shall I dread?”
That is our Secret Weapon.
Beyond earth, beyond our little corner of the universe, God is there. Creator God didn’t just create earth. Creator God created everything. Our creator created sun, moon, stars, planets and at this point scientists have discovered thousands of other planetary systems.
At the same time (which amazes me) God created humans, trees, plants, animals, and sea creatures. Each human, each tree, each plant, each land animal, and each sea creature has its own characteristics. Man has just scratched the surface in discovering each individual difference between each plant and creature.
In college geology we had to memorize and be able to identify a large room full of rocks placed on tables. Everyone in the large class studied rocks for weeks in preparation for the final. Some were easy to identify and some were very difficult to identify because they looked almost identical to other rocks.
What amazes me is that not only does God know each rock, God knows why specific rocks were placed in certain areas. In the future geologists will be able to identify the specific purpose of every rock and tree. The Lord God knows that purpose and reason they were created. Everything was created for a purpose. Colossians 1:16 tells us, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were through him and for him.” All for a purpose.
For us, Deborah
