God’s Majesty

Isaiah 45:5-7 NKJV

Psalm 93:1-2 NKJV

2 Corinthians 9 NKJV

Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV

BE Grateful

I am grateful for sacred things. I am grateful for scripture. I am grateful that we have a great cloud of witnesses who have gone before and who left sacred words for us.

I am ever so grateful for God’s majesty.

Sacred Words tell us that there is ONE God. There is no other God.

The prophet Isaiah 45:5-7 wrote that God spoke these sacred words to him: “I am the Lord, and there is no other; there is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me, that they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.’”

Psalm 93:1-2 tells us, “The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved. Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting.”

It’s interesting that Psalm 93 begins with the declaration that our God reigns. The declaration is open-ended which gives us a sense that God’s kingdom and reign stretches far beyond heaven. Because it’s open-ended, we get a sense that God not only reigns in the heavens and the earth, but that God reigns in the universes. What is mind blowing in light of that is the thought that God, this God, our God resides within us. God reigns in our heart and our mind.

Psalm 93:1 also tells us He is clothed with majesty. The ancient Hebrew tells us that our God has authority and beauty. The Hebrew word for majesty is ge-ut and it means to be with majesty. Majesty used here would suggest a sovereign who is dignified and has impressive magnificence and power.

The last part of Psalm 93:1 says God GIRDED himself with Strength. He wears strength as if it’s permanent. In 2 Corinthians the Apostle Paul admitted he had a thorn in the flesh…a weakness. In 2 Corinthians 9 Paul tell us God’s response to his statement is, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

God is saying to the great scholar Paul and to us that He has enough grace for any situation because His strength really kicks in when we are at out weakest point. God WEARS strength permanently.

We don’t need to be strong. We can be weak because the God of the universe, the God IN us is all strength. Because God is strength, it’s not possible for the world to be moved. No one can touch it. Not one.

The psalm writer’s next statement tells us God’s throne is from everlasting to everlasting. Our immovable strong God reigns forever in eternity.

When we turn to God, we have a forever home in Him.

I remember a quiet summer day when I was 15 years old. No one else was at home and I utilized the opportunity of the sit down and pray. I asked God to show me things I had not seem or known about Him. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was swept up by the Spirit and taken for a ride through the universe.

As we traveled that day, I saw universe after universe and I knew that God was over all. I felt God’s power and strength.

I knew the kingdom of God was without end. I saw beauty and light.

I’ve never forgotten the vision God gave me of His kingdom that day. I looked at the clock before I started praying and a little over an hour had passed. That was 53 years ago and to date I’ve never again had a vision that lasted so long. I think God wanted me to see who He was while I was young so I would understand the majesty and wonder of God.

I still remember how I felt that day.

I knew the power of God would carry me all the days of my life and into eternity.

Since then I’ve had frightening moments…like losing my dad. I’ve had really confusing moments when my marriage ended. Just like everyone I’ve faced uncertainty when I didn’t understand what God was doing in my life, but I’ve always known that God has a plan.

The prophet Jeremiah wrote in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

All along, God has had a plan for me.

God has a plan for you as well. He has a plan of PEACE. God has a plan of HOPE.

God, this majestic eternal God, creator of the universes, God who lives in us, has a specific plan for each of us who turn to Him.

Even when we don’t understand or see the way, God knows the way and He is working on our behalf for good.

Today’s Spiritual Practice is: Turn to God

Ask God to show you something you’ve not seen before. You may have a vision. God may speak to you. Or you may know something you didn’t know before. God does have a plan for you and He does have the capability to communicate with you. Trust in God.

In God, Deborah
