Isaiah 6:1-3 NKJV
Revelation 4:8 NKJV
From the Beginning
God’s holiness simply put means separating ourselves from the “busy-ness” we encounter in life for brief periods of time. Holiness is about goodness.
Holiness is about paying attention to our heart and God’s heart.
Holiness is sacred. It means we seek to see our world set apart and calm. Think of it this way, it’s seeing the Garden of Eden. Holiness is all around us. It’s in a babies laugh. It’s your best friend telling you that they love and support you. It’s seeing an old friend and realizing time may have passed but you share precious set apart shared memories.
Holiness is harmony of Spirit with another person.
Holiness is becoming unified with God.
Practicing holiness means we take time to set ourselves apart from criticism, striving, and perfectionism. We learn to relax IN God.
Holiness is NOT about judgement, being perfect, working to always do the right thing, works-righteousness, or earning our way.
We know from scripture that God is Holy and set apart. God is, was, and always will be holy from before the beginning. We learn in Isaiah 6:1-3, “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!”
God is Holy.
Only God is perfect.
We cannot come close because we are not God.
But, we can worship a Holy God. As we set aside time to worship our holy God, we can begin to let Our heart connect to God’s heart.
I went to a conference in San Antonio several years ago and during one of the late afternoon sessions, one of the conference leaders told us we were going to take time to see what God had for each of us. I was pretty tired and my eyes were hurting (dry from the Texas heat) so I was glad to have time to rest my eyes and sit quietly.
I didn’t expect anything to happen.
The conference prayer team must have done some serious praying, because the instant I closed my eyes I felt God’s heart. As I relaxed and leaned into the heart of God I had an overwhelming sense of God’s holiness, love, and peace.
I stayed there for several minutes and God told me, “I’m really sorry.”
I somehow knew God was telling me He was sorry I’d been terribly hurt in a long term relationship.
I felt God’s sorrow for my pain.
I felt God’s compassion.
I experienced God’s love for me in a new way.
I started crying because I was so overwhelmed by God’s response.
A very good friend was with me and she held me while I cried.
It’s difficult for me to explain the magnitude of God’s feelings. I’d say to put a number to it, my feelings would be at a 7 or 8 and God’s feelings were at 7 or 8 Billion.
To this day I still vividly remember sitting in the heart of God.
From Before the Beginning, God IS Holy, perfect, good, sacred, loving, and peaceful.
In Revelation 4:8, we read of the cry John heard on the Island of Patmos when the Lord gave him the revelation that is to come. He wrote, “The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”
Our God is Holy.
From before the beginning and past the end, God is Holy.
Today’s Spiritual Practice is: ask God what He has for You
Sit quietly and wait for God to come.
In God, Deborah
