Series: Give Thanks
I Chronicles 16:8 ESV
Psalm 28:7 ESV
As I write this I remember today is “medical procedure day”.
It is not a procedure I look forward to, but since I’ve done it a lot, it’s one I’m accustomed to having.
I Chronicles 16:8 tells us, “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!”
Being reminded to be thankful for the procedure is part of my regular process. I do give thanks for the procedure and for the highly competent doctor who is in charge!
Every time I have the procedure to my eyes I am reminded of my paternal grandmother who was blind in her later years because there was no help when she was alive.
In her day nothing could be done when you had macular degeneration.
Today, hundreds (thousands) have made it possible to provide help. I give thanks to God for the procedure. Even though it is not an easy procedure to have done, it makes it possible for many to retain their sight.
I look at it this way…what is one afternoon of discomfort when it makes it possible for me to see?
I thank the Lord for helping medical professionals to find and administer the procedure.
At the same time I am a realist. I know without any doubt that even though there will be moments of discomfort, God is with me every step of the way.
I know God holds my hand.
I know God protects.
I know God soothe my mind.
And so, I call on the name of the Lord and I praise God for always being with me and the medical professionals.
I also pray for many others who sit in the same waiting room waiting to have the same procedure. I pray that they trust God with their discomfort. I pray they can turn to God and surrender their fear.
After the procedure I take time to rest.
I do not write or draw.
I do not cook or clean. My evening meal is already prepared. I am a great believer in being creative with leftover food, and I plan a good meal after the procedure.
Others who know about the regular procedure I have know that I consider it to be a miracle. I believe and openly speak about the wonder of the goodness of God. Medical science is wonderful, and God opens doors to great minds.
I happen to believe that Gods in the driver seat. God is active in our lives. At the same time God does not force us to believe.
Man is given a choice.
Because of that, I pray for others, especially those who have this procedure (and other procedures like it) that they will look to God for comfort and strength.
Scripture tells us in Psalm 28:7:
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.”
God IS our strength and shield!
We can trust God!
The Spirit is our ever present help!
Our hearts soar as we exult the Holy name of God.
With our song, we give thanks for God’s ever present help!
And so, today as I prepare for the procedure, THAT is my song!
Spiritual Practice: Your song
What is Your song of praise?
