Colossians 1:15-17 ESV
Colossians 1:15-17 MSG
There are people who think me quite strange when I tell them I cannot do anything without Jesus/God.
I’ve even been told that is ridiculous.
My reply is this, “I’ve tried it both ways. I’ve tried to utilize my education (B.A. Communication) and Master of Divinity) to accomplish daily tasks like writing and sketching illustrations. I’ve worked through arguments and storylines by myself. I’ve sketched illustrations. But every time I try to do those things by myself I get stuck somewhere along the line.
I remember that when I was a teenager and I would get stuck, my dad would remind me (about a million times) I do not need to do it by myself.
He would tell me, “God will help if you allow it.”
Then I would stop, put down my pencil, quiet my mind, and ask God to be in charge.
Every every every time God sent me a helper (the Spirit).
God is God. Jesus is God. The Holy Spirit is God. Three in one.
Colossians 1:15-17 tells us, “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
The most amazing thing about God who created all things and who holds all things together is that this Father, Son, Spirit loves me (you) enough to turn, listen and respond to my every prayer.
I mean seriously, how can that be?
I look at the numbers of people on the planet and I am amazed beyond words that God has time for my constant requests.
I do not understand how God could be so attentive.
I cannot comprehend how Jesus can take time for me.
I don’t begin to understand the workings of the Holy Spirit.
Yet, daily, hour by hour, minute by minute, every every every time I turn and ask for help God is there.
I do not see God, Father, Son, Spirit but I feel the presence of God every time I pay attention. Also, Angels attend us when they are sent. Angels are God’s agents. I have seen angels a few times but mostly I sense their presence and protection.
The Message tells us in Colossians 1:15-17, “We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment.”
And so today as I write and draw I do not do it alone. I do not do anything alone. I cannot take credit for any of it. God helps me with every subject, every sentence, and every word. Sometimes I take over but then I end up having to delete, stop and back up so I can listen. Jesus came so every day we will see God and know God’s purpose. Everything everyday begins with God/Jesus. God/Jesus gives everything purpose and God/Jesus holds everything together.
Even my silly illustrations with gnomes and my dog.
God/Jesus is in everything and cares about every detail. I cannot begin to understand that kind of love but I’ve grown to rely on it.
And so I pause and tell God thanks and I send love back to the one who created love.
