Series: Love
Matthew 22:36-40 ESV
Love God & Others
If I had to describe Jesus in one sentence I might be inclined to say the Jesus was perfect love in action.
Plus, when Jesus took off for the wilderness for 40 days and nights where he fasted and prayed, Jesus was given his marching orders. He would most likely have been told when and how and where to go. While we pass over that scripture and seldom take it at face value we should really dig deep into what those 40 days and nights were like.
Did Angels attend him? I wouldn’t be surprised.
Was he given specific power by the Spirit during that time?
How did God the Father interact with him in the wilderness?
What we do know is that when Jesus returned to civilization after the forty days and nights, he was ready for action.
Jesus was really clear about what is important. When he was asked to prioritize important concepts and commandments to live by, he laid it all out.
In Matthew 22:36-40 Jesus said, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
We have to remember that Jesus saying those words is very unlike anyone else saying those words.
Jesus is God.
Jesus and the Spirit are one.
So, when Jesus spoke the Spirit was there going to and fro in hearts and minds. Jesus was not just a good speaker or a preacher. His words burned in their hearts.
When Jesus said ‘come’ the Spirit was urging with great love in hearts and minds to arise.
When I was young the Spirit came to me and said, “come”. I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember that my heart burned wanting God.
I did not fight God. I surrendered.
Thankfully my dad was there to help me understand what had happened.
The Holy Spirit of God came in me. After that I started having dreams and visions that came true. Nearly sixty years later I remember it like it happened yesterday.
