Waking Up

Lamentations 3:21-23 ESV

My favorite time of day is the instant I wake up after a good night’s sleep. Everyday I am reminded that God watches over those who trust in Him while we sleep. But some mornings I sense that God is ever so close and He is whispering words to me as I wake up.

The word God whispered this morning was “miracle”.

I’ve been praying for someone specific and I saw (in my mind) the face of the person I’ve been praying for. I did ask God for a miracle.

Then I pulled up my lesson plan and the verse I am writing about today was Lamentations 3:21-23 which says, “this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Our God is a wonder!

Mercy by mercies and healing abound.

Years ago when I worked with a large team of gifted healing prayers, I learned a great deal about healing from them. Many of them were “seniors” and they had been healers all their lives. They were dedicated men and women who prayed healing for others continuously.

God gave hope to them.

Their steadfast love for God did not cease.

The mercy of God was endless.

Every morning when they awoke they were reminded of God’s faithfulness.

Now, it’s been more than a decade since I worked with them and I begin to ‘see’ what they ‘saw”.

Because I am now retired I know the great blessing of having time to sit with God.

I am no longer on a time table.

I don’t have a long list of things I need to go ‘do’.

Now I can sit in silence most of the day and spend time with God. Spending one or two hours praising God is a blessing and a joy.

I do watch television for a few hours in the evening, but throughout the day I sit ( with my dog) in silence with God.

This really is the life I’ve dreamed of for years. It was worth the wait!

For years before I retired my dream was to have a blog where I could write. My problem with my dream was that I didn’t know how to do the illustrations. I’ve been a paid photographer twice in my life…once for a newspaper and a second time as a portrait photographer. Even so, finding something interesting to photograph for several posts a day didn’t seem realistic. So, I asked God to send me an artist who could draw pictures I saw in my mind.

Somewhere along the way, I bought drawing pencils and I started drawing the pictures in my head on typing paper. I’d never been an artist and I had no idea about the ‘rules’ but I kept sketching the pictures I saw in my head.

Then one day I started sketching on my iPad. It was a very silly sketch but it was what I saw in my head.

That was how I started doing silly illustrations for my ‘words’.

What I discovered is that I absolutely loved doing illustrations, especially of my dog. I love it so much that I am starting to draw cartoons for the humor section of the blog.

I have to tell you all of that came straight from God as a gift and it has been a huge blessing!

The steadfast love (and surprises) of the Lord never cease to amaze me!
